Mount Sneffel is perhaps one of the easier 14000 to climb since it does not require any technical climbing. One can easily drive to the mountain, climb the peak and be back at the Motel by dinner time. |

The highest mountain in Europe is Mount LaBlanc and it reaches a little above 15000 feet. Mount Sneffel will bring you to 14150. If that is not enough in just a short drive from Dolores Mountain Inn you can find many other peaks reaching above 14000 feet. |

| First part of the hike is rather easy since you are still at 12000+ feet with a slow incline. After passing 13000 feet the thin air is taking its toll and most climbers will slow down to just a few feet between resting. |

Go south out of Ouray to Box Canyon. Follow the road to Yankee Boy Basin. Drive as far as your vehicle allows. Hiking distance depends on how far you can drive. Click on both maps to see the approaches from Yankee Boy Basin. The pay off when reaching the summit is well worth the effort. |

The last 500 feet or so you will be climbing over large boulders and rocks. Most climbers will find it just another walk in the park. When reaching the summit you will be struck by the incredible view where on a clear day, you can see for 100 miles or more. |
